Shoreham Airshow crash photo

UPDATE: The Worthing Herald replies! See below..
When I heard a plane had crashed round the corner from my house, I had to go take a look, although I did feel like I was ‘rubbernecking’
I took a few photos of the crash site while I was there.
I just had a comment from someone on Flickr saying that the Worthing Herald is using my photo (it’s the last one in the series) and attributing it to a “Jay Kay Kappa”. You can see the original picture above, or see the flickr page here.
Massive co-incidence? They look identical to me, even the individuals postures and the position of the smoke.
If my photo is wrongly attributed, I wonder any of these photos are actually by “Jay Kay Kappa”?
UPDATE: The Worthing Herald replies!
Jon from The Worthing Herald has been in contact with both Nic and myself, to let us know that they received these photographs through press channels, and they then discussed a fee with Jay.
I can’t believe this guy has been going around collecting photos from the public, then passing them off as his own, thereby profiting from someone’s death!
It’s worth noting that I have been offered a fee, which I will donate to a relevant charity, most likely the Royal Air Forces Association
I’d like to thank The Worthing Herald for helping sort this out quickly and fairly, thanks guys!

They look pretty similar to me too.
Check these out. First pic is a screenshot of your Flickr page in FireFox.

The second pic contains the same screenshot, but this time I’ve overlayed the Windows Media player window (full screen with overlays disabled in the options) and resized it to fit over the Flickr image in PhotoShop.

Try opening both of these in separate FireFox tabs and then switch between them, there’s not much of a difference

I left the comment on Flickr.
The other 4 photos are from the following, as they are friends I know they are not Jay Kay Cappa!!!

Do a google for Jay KayCappa.

Hey Chris,
Thanks for that!
Everyone: check it out..
Edit: Wow, he assaulted Heather Mills-McCartney
September 17th, 2007 at 2:59 pm
Blimey, he certainly gets around (assuming this is the same guy!)
It was revealed on Tuesday that Kaycappa has 131 previous convictions for offences dating back 17 years including 62 convictions for fraud, as well as others including theft, burglary, destruction of a will, perverting the course of justice, obtaining property by deception, driving offences and misuse of a computer to disseminate a bomb threat. The court also heard that in the past Kaycappa has been known by ten aliases and has used six different dates of birth.

It could just be a coincidence

I can’t find the words… :S

Directed here by Chris (commenting above) - the other shots credited to Jay Kaycappa were taken by my husband, Chris has already linked to my flickr page above.
Like you my husband felt a bit odd taking pictures and posting them up but someone else using them, presumably for profit if not for furthering their own name is really out of order. Looks like they are not someone often bothered by conventional ideas of what is right and wrong though really…

found some more about him here

Also have contacted the Herald and they are looking into it further.
[edit by admin: - that URL’s broken, think it’s this one?]

A colleague of mine has been in touch with the Herald also to ensure that he is not paid for these images. They came via an agency, who in all likelyhood are unaware that he may have stolen these images.
It is indeed the same photographer that assaulted Heather Mills McCartney and is being prosecuted for the crossing of a F&M cordon.
It is people like him that get real press photographers like my colleagues and I a bad reputation, that the great majority of us don’t deserve.

The Worthing Herald have cleared this up! See above.

Thought Herald responded really well. Like you we’ve been offered a fee which will also be donated to a charity - probably RAFA. Our photo has also appeared in various other places so I’ve been emailing them too to ensure that noone is getting paid anything they don’t deserve.

OMG - I can’t believe how low some people will sink.
We too watched this accident as it happened and I honestly felt, and still feel, sick to the stomach that I had seen someone die in such a tragic way.
How anyone can exploit this situation is beyond me. Gutter - absolute gutter!
Well done for getting this sorted.

I spoke to the Editor at the Worthing Herald.
And he says he is not paying this person, and will pay you for your Images, as soon as proof of ownership has been sorted out.
Jay Kaycappa also go’s by the Name of Mr Purkiss
He has been slaped in the face by Kate Moss, Was found guilty of assault on Heather Mills McCartney and was arrested under the Animal Health Act for breaching a cordon on 4 August at Woolford Farm near Guildford. The case comes to court on Friday 26 September. And now this.

Sounds like the Herald have responded very decently to you on this one. Frustrating and annoying though.
